ToSelf is a private, offline journal for photos, videos, and written thoughts. It has no accounts, no feed, no social features, no advertising, and no analytics.
ToSelf collects no personal data whatsoever. There is no sign-up, no account, and no identifier of any kind is created, collected, or shared. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking software of any kind.
ToSelf does not request the Android INTERNET permission.
This means the operating system itself prevents the app from sending
or receiving anything over a network. Nothing you put into ToSelf can
leave your device through the app.
Your posts — photos, videos, captions, and tags — are stored in the app's private storage area on your device. When you add a photo or video, the app makes its own copy; your original in the gallery is never modified or deleted. No copy of your content exists anywhere else unless you export one yourself.
If you enable the optional app lock, your PIN is stored only on your device as a salted cryptographic hash (the PIN itself is never stored), inside Android's encrypted storage. Biometric unlocking is performed entirely by the Android system; ToSelf never sees, stores, or has access to your fingerprint or face data.
The vault export feature creates a single archive file of your content and saves it to a location you choose using the Android file picker. This happens only when you initiate it. If you choose a location managed by a cloud storage app (such as a Drive folder), any uploading is performed by that app under its own privacy policy — ToSelf itself still transmits nothing. Exported archives are not encrypted; please store them somewhere you trust.
Deleting a post permanently removes it and its media files from the app's storage. Uninstalling ToSelf, or clearing its data in Android settings, permanently deletes everything the app stores. Because no data ever leaves your device, there is nothing for us to delete on any server — and no way for us to recover your content, so keep an export if it matters to you.
ToSelf does not collect data from anyone, including children.
If a future version of ToSelf ever changes any of the above (for example, by adding an online feature), this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be clearly described in the app's update notes.
